Thanks mum! 

Mums – this weekend it’s your time to shine. It’s just 5 days ‘til Mother’s Day (Sunday, 12 May for those playing at home!), a day to make our mums feel special and show our appreciation for all that they do for us. How will you be celebrating your mum? Maybe taking her out for brunch, or cooking her favourite meal at home? Will you be sharing the day with your partner’s mum as well? We’ll be descending on mum and dad’s house for a lovely lunch prepared by dad. My sisters and I have the present all taken care of  – if you’re reading Mum!

And if you’re a mum too, has anything been planned for you? Hopefully something that includes putting your feet up and total relaxation!

I always look forward to those handmade goodies my son makes me at kindy. Last year it was a toilet roll holder with a rose stuck on it. This year I have a feeling macaroni and glitter cards with plenty of excess glue and lovingly misspelt words, and maybe a picture of the two of us holding hands will play a part. Too cute!

Get involved in a good cause

Stuck for something to do on Mother’s Day? There will be lots of fun activities held around Australia for mums and their families – check out your local council for more details. Here are just two of them, and they also support valuable research into breast cancer… but hurry, places are limited!:

Mother’s Day Classic. It’s a fun run/walk organised by Women in Super – a national network of women working in the superannuation and finance industries. It was established to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research. I’ve walked it several times with my mum, sisters, dad, hubby and son. They’re held in most of the capital cities and plenty of regional spots too so head over to the Mother's Day Classic website for more info.

David Jones High Tea. Take your mum along to David Jones on Sunday, 12 May for a sumptuous High Tea. Held in partnership with the National Breast Cancer Foundation, there’ll be special guests, high tea and a gift bag valued at $100 for each guest at the Elizabeth Street store from 2–4pm on Sunday, May 12. Places are limited and bookings are essential so head on over to the David Jones website for more info.

After seeing most of her films, I have a soft spot for Sabrina but Breakfast at Tiffany’s is my hands down favourite. The dress! The pearls! Tiffany’s! Just divine.
