Back Pain Prevention Policy

  • Encourage your children not to overload their bags and to carry books only needed for the day's classes.
  • Pack the heaviest items closest to your back.
  • Only purchase quality backpacks that have been designed ergonomically and specifically for everyday use.

Statistics

  • The average maximum load students carry exceeds 11.5kg
  • More than one third of students are carrying bags that weigh over 30% of their body weight.
  • One third of 15 - 18 year olds suffer back pain.
  • Whilst excess weight is the primary factor for back pain, badly designed backpacks can dramatically contribute to discomfort resulting in back problems.

Weight Distribution

  • Utilise all compartments in your backpack to distribute and organise the weight of your contents evenly. Always pack your heavier items and books low and towards the back. Laptops/tablets should be stored in internal padded pocket provided.
  • Backpacks should not weigh more than 10-15 percent of your weight.
  • If your child strains to pick up their backpack - it’s too heavy!

So, you may have heard the word ergonomic previously but you’re not sure what it means and you’re unsure of how it relates to a backpack. Ergonomics is a form of science that is dedicated to improving the quality of human life! Simple, right? Ergonomics focuses on how we interact safely, with technology and the spaces surrounding us and aims to reduce fatigue and discomfort.

Statistics taken from worldwide studies show alarming degrees of back problems experienced by today's school children. Research suggests that students shouldn't carry more that 10 - 15% of their body weight. This is the reason you should only be buying your kids, ergonomic backpacks!

Just like other ergonomic products, when a backpack has been designed ergonomically, it has been designed to give you a healthier, customised, and more comfortable way to carry around your everyday items. All of the Harlequin Kids Tuff-Pack backpacks, have been ergonomically designed specifically to reduce back strain, and help support growing spines!

We pride ourselves on being independently endorsed by Chiropractors, Osteopaths and Physiotherapists. And guess what, they LOVE our Tuff-Packs because of our Anatomical Back System™ that is built into every backpack we sell, as we believe every student should benefit from wearing a supportive school bag.

Designed specifically to contour to the child's spine with its unique "S" shaped anatomically aligned back panel, our range of ergonomic Tuff-Packs are super light, super comfy and help alleviate back strain in children by promoting good posture.
