Eco Fabric Range
Saving the planet - one bag at a time!
Did you know that Harlequin saves over 300,000 recycled bottles every year that were destined for landfill, but have now found a second life as fabric for a range of school bags? That’s a LOT of bottles.
Harlequin is very proud to be recognised as the creator of the world's first ever 100% P.E.T. (Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate) fabric range of school bags made from post-consumer recycled plastic water bottles.
In 2010, after two years of extensive research and testing, Harlequin took the positive move towards a more sustainable future by introducing our ECO RANGE. By making our polyester fabric from recycled plastic bottles we use fewer resources, cause less pollution, lessen landfill and reduce toxic emissions and our carbon footprint. We wanted to make it easier for you to choose more sustainable products for your kids without any trade-offs.
We promise to keep making these bags, as long as you keep recycling.
From Bottle to Bag
STEP 01. Bottles are collected, sorted and sent to a processing facility.
STEP 02. At the facility they get chipped, turned into flakes and dried.
STEP 03: The dried flakes are melted down and made into fibres that are spun into polyester thread.
STEP 04: The thread is woven into Harlequins special Eco Fabric which is then cut and sewn into our Signature ECO range.
STEP 05: We hug the Earth.
