Back To School

The last week of school holidays is here already – has it passed by in a flash, or are the days taking their time? Lots of mums and dads have told me they love school holidays, especially when they get to take time off too – a little break from routine, from ‘have-to’s’, and adding in all those lovely little pleasures like getting to enjoy that second cup of tea in the morning (well some mornings, right?).

But with back to school just around the corner it’s a great time to get inspired about what to pack the kids for lunch.

It’s all in the bag

Like you, we’re committed to healthy and happy kids. A great way to start is to get their school bag beautiful inside and out with a good durable bag as well as a healthy lunch box.

So you’ve got outside sorted with a Harlequin school and lunch bag (by the way how cute is this watermelon backpack! – click to buy)!

Now, how about the inside?

Munch & Move

NSW Health is calling it ‘Munch & Move’ and here’s what they recommend:

Fuel up on fruit and veg. Chop up strawberries, pineapple or melon, carrot sticks or cherry tomatoes.

Carbo loading. Choose from bread, rice, potatoes and pasta, preferably wholegrain, wholemeal or high fibre.

Make it lean with protein. Grab either tuna, salmon, boiled eggs, beans, lean beef or chicken.

Keep it on the down low fat dairy. Pick yoghurt, cheese or milk.

H2o to go. For all day hydration.

And why stop at the school bag – these yummy ideas are ones we can all enjoy. Pack some tasty goodies for the office too!

Lest we forget

It’s Anzac Day on Thursday. Have a fantastic break and our thoughts will be with the brave men and women who have served and fought in all wars and conflicts. Are you participating in any Anzac Day events, maybe marching with a grandparent, or on their behalf?

What did you get up to these holidays? Got an easy and ‘good for you’ snack to share? Post it in our comments section below because we’d love to hear your thoughts… on anything! And if too much Harley is never enough, you can find us on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Pinterest.
